Hey Gang,
Some of you have already donated--thank you! Because of those who have already donated, I've upped my goal to $300. And There's a Very Good Chance that I can make it. Want to help? Even $5 is a step forward to assisting people with MS, and continued research into what the heck this disease is and how we can prevent it.
I know people who have MS. More than I realized. When I first walked this walk, I was in college, and did it on a lark, remembering one of my high school teachers who was diagnosed while I was in her class. The day of the walk was a lovely spring day, and I got blisters the like of which I wouldn't see again until my first 3-Day walk. I kept walking this short walk on a lovely spring day on and off for a while. Especially so when I found out that my fiance's mother has MS.
Later I met a lovely bunch of people through faire, and started walking this short walk on a lovely spring day once I moved to Annapolis. We started with three lovely ladies (one of which has MS), and we were invited on board a naval ship while walking through the Academy. We giggled and kept walking.
Every year since I've walked this short walk on a spring day. Not all of them have been lovely--and in fact, the last year the walk was in downtown Annapolis we two brave walkers ditched actually walking in the cold wet and cheered in those who did walk instead. Our team includes another person with MS. Several other friends that I've made since then through other channels have told me that they too battle this disease. And so, I continue to walk.
Things have changed a lot since that first walk on a whim. My mother in law cannot walk without support anymore, has had a bad fall, and other issues I'm not going into here. The walk cannot go through the Naval Academy anymore because of changes in the world and how safe we feel. And the walk has moved to a subdivision not far from my house, as it is less expensive to host the walk here than in Annapolis proper. And the money we raise doesn't stretch as far as it used to. But still, I raise the money, and walk a short walk on a lovely spring day. Because I can, and there are those who cannot, and would rather that they could.
If you cannot join us, please support me. I'm just over $100 from my goal. Help me make it, and support a walk in the spring which supports those with MS.
