I... I got it!
Jul. 15th, 2008 08:42 amThe amazement and daze for today needs some explanation. I may have mentioned on this journal that I knit. In the online knitting community, there are trends and fads as the latest new and shiny comes along. Clapotis was that way, as was the CPH (Central Park Hoodie) or the Blue Moon Fiber Arts Sock Club.
Then there's Wollmeise. Woolmeise is a yarn from Germany, dyed by a single woman. She achieves a saturation of color that is amazing, and beautiful. There is only one supplier of Wollmeise yarn in the USA--The Loopy Ewe, an online store.
Because of the limited supply, The placement of the Wollmeise on the site is done in a limited random method. She'll announce the week when it's going up, and from there it's chance that you are on the site when the yarn goes up--and it sold--in about the same amount of time as the Privateer Feast. The quantities are about the same, actually, but the Wollmeise has a nationwide audience.
If you are in the know, you can stalk the Wollmeise while reading the F5 Ravelry thread, where Sheri (owner of The Loopy Ewe) will occasionally leave hints. All signs pointed to last night, and so since I had to work some last night, I decided to try for the yarn. On a whim. So I watch the F5 thread, and
3fingeredsalute helped me find an auto-refresh Firefox plugin. Late last night, it went up. I hadn't thought too much about what I wanted. I went for a lime and purple colorway (Krauterbeet), and got it. I went back and looked at the rest, missed the red/orange one (called Campari, which I like a lot), and picked up two more skeins (Birkinrinde and Turkis und Karneol). And that was it. The yarn was all sold.
I got it. Not only did I get it, I got FOUR skeins. *boggles*
Now I have to think about what I want to do with it. It's sock-weight, but I'm thinking it might not become socks, but other things. There's enough Krauterbeet there for a sweater...
